Programme for Day One:
We will look at the different types of letter carving tools I have in the workshop and their uses will be explained. I will demonstrate the sharpening of chisels and gouges by hand using diamond bench stones and slip-stones and a leather strop. An electric grinding and honing machine (which only I may use) is in the workshop and the advantages and disadvantages will be discussed.
In the latter part of the morning you will concentrate on letter cutting exercises which will be based (loosely) on the Modern Roman Alphabet. This is similar to the italic style in that it consists of thick and thin strokes where the thick letter strokes are between one- tenth and one-eighth of the letter height.
In the afternoon you will draw your inscription directly on to the wood.
Programme for Day Two:
Finish the drawing of the letterforms and begin to carve your inscription. You will have time for discussion and looking at books on the subject.
Programme for Day Three:
Continue to carve (and hopefully) finish your inscription.

All course fees must be paid in full either by electronic transfer or cheque seven days prior to the course commencement.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel: I am happy to offer a full refund (minus the non-refundable deposit) for courses cancelled by you, the client, for whatever reason if you give me more than 72 hours notice. Less time than this and no refund will be given.
If I cancel: I guarantee that the full course fee (including the non-refundable deposit) will be refunded to you, the client.
